Indication

PRO-VET® Renal/Oxalate complete and balanced specialized dry diet food for adult dogs of all breeds with a chronic kidney disease or with a pathogenesis of calcium oxalate (CaOx) stone formation (when urine is over-saturated with calcium and oxalate crystals); reduces oxalate stone formation, as well as the risk of a recurrence.
Het dieet voorziet in voldoende voedingsstoffen om het lichaam te onderhouden.
The progression of CRF can be diminished and thus survival of the patient be extended, but the condition cannot be healed. There is now a strong evidence that appropriate dietary management will enhance survival of cats with CRF. Phosphorus restriction leads to retardation of the loss of kidney function (Beynen, 2006). Apart from phosphorus restriction, the characteristics of a dietetic food for feline kidney patients are protein restriction, low sodium content, high potassium content, a moderately basic urinary pH and a high level of eicosapentaenoic acid. Clearly, restriction of essential nutrients may not cause a deficiency and the nutrient supply should be sufficient to allow normal body functionss.

An appropriate renal diet can only delay the progression of the loss of nephrons and increase survival time. Among commercially available renal diets for cats there are great differences in efficacy. The anticipated efficacy of PRO-VET® Renal/Oxalate, which is based on its ideal composition, may be equivalent to an average survival time after diagnosis of about 30 months. It is likely, that PRO-VET® Renal/Oxalate will be very effective in reducing the risk of development of CRF by healthy cats. The risk on chronic renal failure CRF has diminished by extra vitamin E, high EPA-level and particular low level of phosphorus.

Efficacy

CHARACTERISTICEFFECT
Low Phosphorus (P) level and high content of Omega-3 Polyunsaturated Fatty Acids (EPA+DHA) Help to slow down the development of kidney disease as well as the progression of chronic kidney failure.
Low Calcium (Ca) Content, low Magnesium (Mg) Content and adjusted Urine pH 6.7Work preventive against the formation of calcium oxalate.
Low Sodium (Na) Content
Combats the elevation of blood pressure due to renal failure.
High Potassium (K) ContentCompensates for the loss of potassium during hypokalemia.
Low Arachidonic Acid ContentReduction in the production of inflammation activating eicosanoids.
High Content of Salmon OilSupports the filtering function of the kidneys.
Low Protein ContentDecreases the development of oxalate formation. Reduces the accumulation of harmful waste (ammonia and urea) in the blood.
High Content of Natural Antioxidants (Vitamin E, Vitamin C and ß-Carotene)Stimulation of immune function. Improvement of skin condition with atopic dermatitis. Reduces the formation of free radicals, which play a role in the progression of renal failure.

Storage

While dry food will not spoil as rapidly as other types of food, it does not last indefinitely. Always make sure that you use such foods before the expiration date. Keep the food dry and store it inside the bag it came in; we design the bags to resist moisture and airflow. The best way to store a large bag of dog or cat food is to place the original bag inside a clean plastic pail or container with a secure lid. Do not store dry food in humid rooms, as damp conditions will accelerate spoiling. Always roll the top of the bag down tightly and cinch it closed with a clip. The Center for Disease Control and Prevention recommends that pet owners keep dry foods and treats in locations that do not exceed 23 °C (degrees Calsius) or 74 °F (degrees Fahrenheit).
