Indication
PRO-VET® Struvite has been developed for adult dogs with struvite urolithiasis. PRO-VET® Struvite will dissolve crystals and stones in the urinary bladder and it will prevent recurrence of symptoms.
PRO-VET® Struvite provides sufficient nutrients to maintain the body. The development of crystals and stones containing struvite in the urinary bladder is a common condition by dogs. Struvite crystals and stones may cause obstruction of the urethra so that the cat cannot urinate properly. Urination will be painful and the accumulation of metabolic waste products in the body may lead to coma and death. Nutrition plays a major role in the treatment of cats with struvite. Dietary management aims at reducing the urinary concentrations of the components of struvite (magnesium, ammonium, phosphate) and lowering the urinary pH so that struvite dissolves and so that new crystals cannot be formed.
Dissolution of existing struvite crystals and stones in the urinary bladder and prevention of the formation of struvite is only possible by a low urinary pH and low concentrations of the struvite components. PRO-VET® Struvite consists of magnesium, ammonium and phosphate and either dissolves or does not form at a urinary pH lower than 6.5. PRO-VET® Struvite contains an appropriate amount of urine acidifier so that the average urinary pH will be 6.3. This pH has anti-struvite activity and does not entail the risk of acidosis. The low levels of magnesium, phosphate and protein further stimulate dissolution of struvite and inhibit its formation. Thus, PRO-VET® Struvite can be used by patients with non-obstructive struvite urolithiasis as well as by patients sensitive to recurrence of struvite formation. On the basis of literature data (Osborne et al., 1990; Houston et al., 2004) and the ideal composition of PRO-VET® Struvite, the anticipated time required for complete dissolution of struvite in the urinary bladder on average is 4 weeks.
Efficacy
CHARACTERISTIC | EFFECT |
Acidifying property | Dissoloves the existing struvite; preventes the formation. |
Low level of magnesium (Mg) and Urine pH ± 6.3 | The urine-acidifying effect lowers the magnesium concentration in the urine and helps to dissolve the present struvite and to prevent struvite formation. |
Low protein content | Loweres the ammonia concentration in urine. |
Low phosphorus (P) content | Decreases the phosphate concentration in the urine. |
Low calcium (Ca) and low protein content | Works preventively against the formation of calcium oxalate. |
Vitamin E content | Natural antioxidant that reduces the formation of free radicals. Reverses the age-related decline of tissue structures. |
Added cranberries | Cranberries are antioxidant-rich berries that can help boost your dog’s immune health and decrease inflammation. Can also help combat a canine urinary tract infection. Good for your dog’s teeth, cardiovascular system and eyesight. |
Composition
meat and animal derivatives (at least 18% chicken), vegetables, cereals, fruits (dried ground biological Canadian cranberries 3%), minerals.

You may consult a veterinarian before use or continuation of this diet.
The recommended first application of this diet for dissolving struvite stones is a period of 5-12 weeks. However, to prevent struvite stone formation, the use of this diet can be extended to a maximum of six (6) months*
Feeding guide
Adult dog of medium breed (10-25kg) needs ¾ to 1½ can each day in at least two meals. Adult dog of large breed (25-45kg) needs 1½ to 2⅓ can each day in at least two meals. Adult dog of very large breed (45-70kg) needs 2⅓ to 3¼ can each day in at least two meals. Fresh drinking water should always be available.
For the best result, feed your dog in combination with dry diet food PRO-VET® Struvite. Spread the daily portion over several small meals. Recommended duration of use: 5 to 12 weeks for dissolution of struvite stones. For reduction of struvite stone recurrence: up to 6 months. It is recommended that advice from a veterinarian be sought before use and before extending the period of use. Feeding guide is indicative. Once opened, cover the unused content and store in the refrigerator and use within 48 hours. Best served at room temperature. Always provide a sufficient amount of fresh, clean water for your dog. Regularly clean food and water bowls.
