PRO-VET® Renal has been developed for adult cats with chronic renal failure and to provide sufficient nutrients to maintain body functions.
By cats, chronic renal failure (CRF) is a main cause of death. CRF occurs in 30% of the cats aged over 12 years. The progression of CRF can be diminished and thus survival of the patient be extended, but the condition cannot be healed. There is now a strong evidence that appropriate dietary management will enhance survival of cats with CRF. Phosphorus restriction leads to retardation of the loss of kidney function (Beynen, 2006). Apart from phosphorus restriction, the characteristics of a dietetic food for feline kidney patients are protein restriction, low sodium content, high potassium content, a moderately basic urinary pH and a high level of eicosapentaenoic acid. Clearly, restriction of essential nutrients may not cause a deficiency and the nutrient supply should be sufficient to allow normal body functions.
An appropriate renal diet can only delay the progression of the loss of nephrons and increase survival time. Among commercially available renal diets for cats there are great differences in efficacy. The anticipated efficacy of PRO-VET® Renal, which is based on its ideal composition, may be equivalent to an average survival time after diagnosis of about 30 months. It is likely, that PRO-VET® Renal will be very effective in reducing the risk of development of CRF by healthy cats. The risk on chronic renal failure CRF has diminished by extra vitamin E, high EPA-level and particular low level of phosphorus.
CHARACTERISTIC | EFFECT |
Low available phosphorus. | Diminishes progression of kidney disease. |
Low protein | Reductes the uremia. |
Low sodium | Counteractes the hypertension. |
High potassium | Compensates potassium loss. |
Low arachidonic acid | Diminishes production of pro-inflammatory eicosanoids. |
High eicosapentaenoic acid | Enhances production of vasodilatory and anti-inflammatory eicosanoids. |
Moderately basic urinary pH | Preventes the acidosis. |
Nutrients at optimal concentrations | Maintenance of body functions. Supportes the condition of skin and coat. |
High digestibility of proteins, fats and carbohydrates. | Good consistency of faeces. |
Rich in polyunsaturated fatty acids of the omega-3 family (EPA+DHA) | Stimulates the immune function. Improves the condition of skin in atopic disease. Diminishes risk of cancer, kidney failure and osteoarthritis. |
Rich in natural antioxidants. | Reduces risk of cancer. |
Rich in fibres with high viscosity (FHV) | Decreases risk of diabetes mellitus and hairball formation. Stimulates of gut motility and advancement of faeces consistency. |
Rich in fibres with low viscosity (FLV) | Stimulates gut motility and controls hairball formation. |
Added Yucca extract | Saponin is an active substance in yucca root, and it is very beneficial in the stabilization of blood sugar level, thereby preventing from hyperglycemia. |
Digestive Health added prebiotics: mannanoligosaccharides fructooligosaccharides | Supports the growth of beneficial bacteria in the intestine. Encourages peristaltic motion, exerting a positive influence on bowel activity and evacuation. Protects the intestine against pathogenic bacteria. |

Directions for use: The kibbles are ready to be eaten. Please make sure that you always provide plenty of fresh drinking water for your cat. Always remember to wash your cat’s bowl before each feeding session. Feeding guide: To keep your cat happy, feed the adult cat at least twice a day with as much as it likes to eat. Cats will regulate their feeding and seldom overeat. Because each individual cat has different requirements, the recommended daily quantities on the packaging should only be used as a guide.

While dry food will not spoil as rapidly as other types of food, it does not last indefinitely. Always make sure that you use such foods before the expiration date. Keep the food dry and store it inside the bag it came in; we design the bags to resist moisture and airflow. The best way to store a large bag of dog or cat food is to place the original bag inside a clean plastic pail or container with a secure lid. Do not store dry food in humid rooms, as damp conditions will accelerate spoiling. Always roll the top of the bag down tightly and cinch it closed with a clip. The Center for Disease Control and Prevention recommends that pet owners keep dry foods and treats in locations that do not exceed 23 °C (degrees Calsius) or 74 °F (degrees Fahrenheit).
A healthy cat is a happy cat.
