Indication

PRO-VET® Struvite has been developed for adult dogs with struvite urolithiasis. PRO-VET® Struvite will dissolve crystals and stones in the urinary bladder and it will prevent recurrence of symptoms.
PRO-VET® Struvite provides sufficient nutrients to maintain the body. The development of crystals and stones containing struvite in the urinary bladder is a common condition by dogs. Struvite crystals and stones may cause obstruction of the urethra so that the cat cannot urinate properly. Urination will be painful and the accumulation of metabolic waste products in the body may lead to coma and death. Nutrition plays a major role in the treatment of cats with struvite. Dietary management aims at reducing the urinary concentrations of the components of struvite (magnesium, ammonium, phosphate) and lowering the urinary pH so that struvite dissolves and so that new crystals cannot be formed.

Dissolution of existing struvite crystals and stones in the urinary bladder and prevention of the formation of struvite is only possible by a low urinary pH and low concentrations of the struvite components. PRO-VET® Struvite consists of magnesium, ammonium and phosphate and either dissolves or does not form at a urinary pH lower than 6.5. PRO-VET® Struvite contains an appropriate amount of urine acidifier so that the average urinary pH will be 6.3. This pH has anti-struvite activity and does not entail the risk of acidosis. The low levels of magnesium, phosphate and protein further stimulate dissolution of struvite and inhibit its formation. Thus, PRO-VET® Struvite can be used by patients with non-obstructive struvite urolithiasis as well as by patients sensitive to recurrence of struvite formation. On the basis of literature data (Osborne et al., 1990; Houston et al., 2004) and the ideal composition of PRO-VET® Struvite, the anticipated time required for complete dissolution of struvite in the urinary bladder on average is 4 weeks.

Efficacy

CHARACTERISTIC
EFFECT
Acidifying propertyDissoloves the existing struvite; preventes the formation.
Low level of magnesium (Mg) and Urine pH ± 6.3The urine-acidifying effect lowers the magnesium concentration in the urine and helps to dissolve the present struvite and to prevent struvite formation.
Low available phosphorusLoweres the phosphate concentration in urine.
Low protein content
Loweres the ammonia concentration in urine.
Low phosphorus (P) contentDecreases the phosphate concentration in the urine.
Low calcium (Ca) and low protein contentWorks preventively against the formation of calcium oxalate.
High vitamin E contentNatural antioxidant that reduces the formation of free radicals. Reverses the age-related decline of tissue structures.
Rich in polyunsaturated fatty acids of the omega-3 family (EPA+DHA)Stimulates the immune function. Improvement of condition of skin in atopic disease. Diminishes risk of cancer, kidney failure and osteoarthritis.
Rich in natural antioxidants.Reduces risk of cancer and renal insufficiency.
Added cranberriesCranberries are antioxidant-rich berries that can help boost your dog’s immune health and decrease inflammation. Can also help combat a canine urinary tract infection. Good for your dog’s teeth, cardiovascular system and eyesight.
Digestive Health
added prebiotics:
mannan-oligosaccharides
fructo-oligosaccharides
Supports the growth of beneficial bacteria in the intestine. Encourages peristaltic motion, exerting a positive influence on bowel activity and evacuation. Protects the intestine against pathogenic bacteria.

Directions for use: The kibbles are ready to be eaten. Make sure that you always provide plenty of fresh and available drinking water for your dog. Regularly clean food and water bowls. Store in a cool dry place, away from direct sunlight. Feeding guide: Because each dog has different requirements, the recommended daily quantities on the packaging should only be used as a guide. This is a guide only as an individual dog’s requirements will vary depending on various factors including breed, activity level, metabolism, age and environment. Feeding quantities should be adjusted to suit your individual dog’s requirements. The amount of feed the best to divide into two meals per day.

You may consult a veterinarian before use or continuation of this diet.
The recommended first application of this diet for dissolving struvite stones is a period of 5-12 weeks. However, to prevent struvite stone formation, the use of this diet can be extended to a maximum of six (6) months*

Storage

While dry food will not spoil as rapidly as other types of food, it does not last indefinitely. Always make sure that you use such foods before the expiration date. Keep the food dry and store it inside the bag it came in; we design the bags to resist moisture and airflow. The best way to store a large bag of dog or cat food is to place the original bag inside a clean plastic pail or container with a secure lid. Do not store dry food in humid rooms, as damp conditions will accelerate spoiling. Always roll the top of the bag down tightly and cinch it closed with a clip. The Center for Disease Control and Prevention recommends that pet owners keep dry foods and treats in locations that do not exceed 23 °C (degrees Calsius) or 74 °F (degrees Fahrenheit).
